Although much of the last 14 years of my career has been spent working with elite athletes, by far my most meaningful work has been helping people with chronic health and pain conditions. There is increasing amounts of research highlighting how powerful hands on bodywork can be in de-sensitising the nervous system, reducing the production of pain neurotransmitters and helping to quieten the body enhancing sleep and all the benefits that bring. Lots of patients I see find it difficult to sleep and are permanently tired and in pain. This can inevitably lead to despair and the initiation of survival mode just to get through each day. These patients may have existing chronic health conditions such as Fibromyalgia or Multiple Sclerosis or could simply be mums/dads struggling to get enough sleep with raging back pain.
Pain physiology has become a specific area of interest and I have learnt much from my experiences of working with a variety of patients suffering from Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuralgia, and Myofascial Pain Syndrome. In our UK health system it seems that pain medication has become prevalent (exogenous opioids) I think there is definitely a place for helping to stimulate endogenous opioid release by performing suitable soft tissue treatment. If you feel you have a chronic health condition and feel that I may be able to help please get in touch. Finally here is a recent testimonial from a patient I had referred to the clinic from a local Sports Medicine Consultant.
" I have a long history of myofascial pain syndrome. The best way to describe finding a clinician that truly understands not only the pathophysiology but the treatment of this condition is, "like finding a needle in a haystack". I have been to countless therapists who have, despite their best intentions, made me worse. Dan's treatment approach is inclusive and takes every aspect of mind, body and spirit into account. He genuinely cares what his clients goals are and understands achieving them includes more than just one singular focus. I achieved relief that I did not think was possible under Dans care. I could not recommend him more"
